ALGIERS, June 6 (KUNA) -- Libya here Friday said it would wait about its
membership in the Mediterranean Union proposed by French president Nicolas
Sarkozy.
Libyan foreign minister Abdulrahman Shalgham said in a press statement
after the conclusion of a meeting of foreign ministers of Mediterranean
countries, that Tripoli was not ready to approve the French project because
"it is unclear to us."
This issue needs more study, he said and called on the Arab Maghreb
countries to wait before joining the proposed Mediterranean Union.
Foreign ministers of 12 Mediterranean nations participated; these are
Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Turkey, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Malta,
and Portugal, besides the host country Algeria. (end)
