By Omar Al-Halabi BEIRUT, June 6 (KUNA) -- Security concerns continued to prevail in Beirut after clashes that erupted in the capital last night, while the Lebanese people anticipated the formation of a national unity government.
Despite efforts to control the security situation after the clashes that erupted between the government's supporters and the opposition in a number of Beirut's districts Thursday evening, the situation is still tense.
Some people tried to block roads with rubber tires, while a shooting occurred in Bshamun area, injuring one person.
After meeting Lebanese President Michel Suleiman Thursday evening, Prime Minister Fuad Siniora emphasized the importance of dealing strictly with the security situation.
He called on security authorities to prevent any attacks and to chase violators, amid reports that some citizens were threatened by some parties.
The central security council asked security and military forces to place a plan to stop media provocation, remove all photos, flags, and posters from the streets of Beirut, and handover to the political parties their headquarters.
The Lebanese Army withdrew all its forces from the headquarters of parties supporting the government and handed over to the Future Movement its centers.
Meanwhile, Amal movement and Hezbollah stressed in a press release their keenness to hold direct talks with different groups to solve any pending issues. (end) oh.ris KUNA 061058 Jun 08NNNN
