Lanka NEW DELHI, April 30 (KUNA) -- At least 53 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam have been killed in clashes in northern Sri Lanka, as the Army claimed to have captured a Tamil Tiger base in Mannar.
The Sri Lankan Army Wednesday launched an attack on the "LTTE 18-Base" in Veppankulam and Kallikulam in Mannar and captured the area, the Defence Ministry said in a statement at Colombo.
At least 40 LTTE cadres were killed in the attack, the statement said.
Meanwhile, at least 11 LTTE cadres were killed in general areas of Parayakulam, Karukkakulam and Kattankulam in Mannar yesterday, Sri Lanka's Media Centre for National Security said today.
Two LTTE rebels were also killed at Muhamale in Jaffna peninsula yesterday, the Defence Ministry said today. (end) dr.ajs KUNA 302237 Apr 08NNNN
