NEW DELHI, April 1 (KUNA) -- At least eight Maoist insurgents have been
killed in a major counter-insurgency operation by the security forces in
Garwah district in the Eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.
The encounter took place at Monda in Garwah district late on Monday, news
agency Indo Asian News Service reported Tuesday.
"This is a big success for our security forces. Of the eight, one was a
Maoist sub zonal commander. Two area commanders were also killed," Jharkhand
police spokesperson R.K. Malik told the news agency.
A self-loading rifle, four .303 rifles, four .315 rifles, one carbine gun,
one double barrel gun and one pistol were recovered from the slain Maoists.
The banned Communist Party of India-Maoist has presence in certain parts of
Jharkhand. (end)
