BRUSSELS, March 22 (KUNA) -- Hundreds of protesters from at least 15
European countries demonstrated at NATO headquarters in Brussels Saturday
against the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Some protesters managed to climb over the fences at the NATO premises but
they were immediately picked up by police, local media reported.
Abut 500 anti-war protestors were detained but they were released later.
The organizers of Saturdays "NATO Game Over" demonstration said in a
statement that "through NATO, Europe is involved in the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan".
"Last but not least, NATO nuclear weapons are still deployed in Europe. And
they are as illegal here as elsewhere. The coming year will be decisive for
NATO's nuclear policy," it said.
At the NATO summit in Bucharest in April, the 26-member Alliance will start
the process to develop a new Strategic Concept, the basic document outlining
for the coming 10 years the common military policy, including the nuclear
policy, noted the statement. (end)
