NEW DELHI, March 21 (KUNA) -- At least 34 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and one government soldier have been killed in fresh clashes in northern Sri Lanka.
While four LTTE rebels were killed in clashes at Vilathikulam area of Vavuniya yesterday, one rebel was killed in Janakapura in North-eastern Welioya, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a statement Friday.
Six LTTE rebels were killed in Palamoddai area of Vavuniya last night, Sri Lanka's Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said today.
Two rebels were killed in Muhamalai in Jaffna and three rebels were killed in Pooneryn Road of Mannar yesterday, MCNS said.
One rebel was gunned down in Navathkulam area of Vavuniya yesterday, MCNS said.
In Omanthai in Vavuniya, eight rebels were killed in two explosions. In another incident, two more rebels were killed at Janakapura in Welioya yesterday.
A soldier was killed in Kiribbanwewa area in Welioya yesterday, the Defence Ministry said.
Four rebels were killed in Pandivirichchan in Vavuniya yesterday. Three more were killed in Veddayanmurippu in Mannar also yesterday, the Defence Ministry said. (end) dr.bs KUNA 212241 Mar 08NNNN
