DOHA, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- The High Council for Family Affairs in Qatar announced Wednesday that they would provide a Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) containing a dictionary for Arab sign language for people with hearing-impaired disability.
The Council's Secretary General Abdullah bin Nasser AlKhalifa revealed that the release of the DVD was part of their numerous activities to help people with special needs.
The unified dictionary would enable users of the Arabic sign-language to communicate with each other, said the official, adding that the disc could be sold through the Internet.
He indicated that the main reason was to unify sign-language for Arabic users in the Arab world with sub-goals being to provide basis for teaching sign-language for schools dealing with the disabled.
The dictionary would unify some 1,600 sign expressions for Arabic users, he said, revealing that the second edition of the dictionary would was well ahead with about 3,000 copies finished. (end) att.gta KUNA 240004 Jan 08NNNN
