NEW DELHI, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- At least 37 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels and two government soldiers have been killed in the battle-fatigued northern Sri Lanka overnight.
In the Northern Jaffna peninsula, four LTTE rebels were killed by the security forces Sunday, the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a statement at Colombo.
In another incident at Muhamale area, two soldiers were killed by the LTTE, the Ministry statement, available here, said.
Two LTTE rebels were killed in a suicide explosion in Kottadi also in Jaffna today.
"Eight LTTE rebels were killed in Adampan area in North-western Mannar yesterday," the Defence Ministry said.
As many as 10 LTTE rebels were killed in the Parappakandal area also in Mannar yesterday, the Ministry said.
In northern Vavuniya, troops killed three LTTE rebels in the Kallikulam area yesterday, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said today.
While two rebels were gunned down in Pullikayarkulam in Vavuniya, five LTTE cadres were killed at Kutinchakulam area in Vavuniya also yesterday, the MCNS said.
