NEW DELHI, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- At least seven personnel of India's key
paramilitary unit -- Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a civilian were
killed in a fidayeen (suicide) attack on a CRPF camp in the Indian state of
Uttar Pradesh (UP) Tuesday, in a bloody beginning to the new year.
Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has claimed responsibility for the
attack on the CRPF camp located in Rampur in UP, news agencies reported.
The attack was launched in the wee hours of Tuesday by LeT insurgents armed
with AK-47 and grenades. In the subsequent encounter seven CRPF men and a
civilian were killed.
Two fidayeens had attacked the camp, India's leading English news channel
'Times Now' reported.
Top UP police and CRPF officials have rushed to the spot.
A combing operation has been launched by the security forces and the area
has been cordoned off. (end)
