BAGHDAD, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- Six Iraqis were killed including two police officers and 10 others were injured when a booby-trapped car exploded in Al-Khalis city, north of Baquba in Diyala Province, targeting an Iraqi-manned checkpoint, police sources said Tuesday.
Colonel Abdul-Rahman Al-Tamimi said a suicidal bomber blew himself up in a car at a police checkpoint at a motorway leading to Al-Khalis.
Security forces arrived swiftly to the scene to see to the injured.
The colonel said terrorist groups in the city aimed to weaken the security system with such attacks, but the forces will spare no effort to restore law and order in Baquba and the whole of Diyala.
Diyala province is witnessing a wave of military operations conducted by the Iraqi forces as well as the US Army to hunt insurgents affiliated with the so-called "Islamic state of Iraq" organization.(end) mhg.sab KUNA 021335 Oct 07NNNN
