RAMALLAH, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Clashes erupted Sunday between Palestinian
security forces and a group of Hebron University students, who suffered
bruises and cuts.
Palestinian sources said the forces surrounded the university campus
following a press conference held by the Islamic student bloc outside the
gates, after they were prevented from holding it on the premises.
They added that the two sides exchanged words, which led to clashes in
which some 20 students were injured and several others were arrested.
Hamas accused the security forces of attacking the conference organizers,
who belonged to the student council affiliated with Hamas.
The conference was to announce developments in talks with the university's
administration over tuition fees, it said.
The university administration said, however, that the students sought
political gain by holding the press conference, which was why they were
prevented from holding it on campus. (end)
