ALGIERS, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Security forces have detained a member of Al-Qaeda organization who planned to carry out a terrorist attack in the Algerian capital, a security source said on Sunday.
The source said the man, aged 30, was detained in the region of Zeraa bin Khada in Tizi Ouzou, 73 kilometers east of the capital. He was caught with an assault Kalashinkov rifle in his possession, the source said, adding that the gunman planned a terrorist attack in the capital.
The gunman was detained amid strict security precautions in the country's cities. Algeria has recently witnessed two bomb attacks that claimed 54 lives. (end) ft.rk KUNA 091400 Sep 07NNNN
