Dubai hosts Int'l humanitarian aid conference, fair in April
DUBAI, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- In a bid to help boost coordination and expertise
regarding crises and natural disasters management, the United Arab Emirate of
Dubai is to host Dubai International Humanitarian Assistance and
Re-Development conference and fair (DIHAD 2005) in the first week of April,
with a long list of humanitarian and relief agencies and bodies taking part.
The event is to be held under the auspices of Dubai Crown Prince and
Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktum. The sponsors are to be
Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed charitable institution, Dubai relief city and the
red crescent with official delegations from the UN and Dubai Chamber of
Commerce and Industry also participating in the three-day event.
The first gathering of the kind in the region would deal with cooperation
and coordination among all state and private and regional relief agencies and
bodies on crisis management and response, a spokesman told reporters Tuesday.
There would be focus on developments in the situation in Sudan as well as
the more recent tsunami disaster and the Bam quake before that, he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed charitable institution Adeeb
Loutah told reporters there is a project under consideration to construct a
big residential compound for tsunamis victims along the Indonesian coast and
others to provide fishing boats and other means of livelihood for those
affected by the tsunami disaster. (end)
