Guantanamo prisoner returns home
TEHRAN, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- Iran declared on Tuesday that an Iranian
national, named Bakhtiar Bamri, who had been detained at Guantanamo prison,
has returned home.
The foreign ministry said in a statement that Bamri, who was arrested by
the American forces in Afghanistan in 2002, was released and returned to Iran
today, adding that he spent six months at a prison in Bagram prison in
Afghanistan before caming back aboard a plane of the International Committee
of the Red Cross.
Some 600 detainees, snatched during the allied war on Afghanistan, are held
in the Guantanamo prison.
The US had informed Tehran about the holding of a national in the prison in
an American military base in southeastern Cuba.
The released prisoner, reportedly aged 25, had been accused of fighting
alongside Afghanistan's Taliban militia. (end)
