Musharraf to leave for Malaysia on October 14
ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf
will leave for Kuala Lumpur on October 14 to attend the Organization of
Islamic Conferece (OIC) summit, an official said.
For resolution of the problems facing by the Muslim Ummah, the president,
during the summit would float an idea based on enlightened moderation in the
coming summit of Organization of Islamic conference (OIC) in Kaulalumpur,
foreign office spokesman, Masood Khan, told KUNA here on Friday.
"In the coming OIC summit, the President would present an idea meant for
addressing the problems confronting the Muslim Ummah. This idea is aimed at
creating awareness among the western world about the principle of enlightened
moderation and Islamic teachings". He said adding that the President is very
much hopeful that the Muslim world will support it.
He said the OIC meeting in Malaysia on Oct 16-18 would condemn Israel for
its attack on Syria.
Earlier on Thursday, the President while talking to Pakistan based
journalists from Arab countries and member countries of OIC, he urged the
Muslim countries for joint anti-terror steps and said that the Organization of
Islamic Conference should be restructured to make it a vibrant body.
The president called for the formation of a commission that should put
forward concrete proposals for restructuring the OIC. He said the proposed
commission should complete its mandated task within the stipulated period.
"Several western countries are harbouring misconceptions about some Muslim
countries. It is imperative that these should be removed", he stressed. He
suggested that it is very essential that sectarianism and religious extremism
should be eliminated from the Muslim countries as these hazards are dealing a
serious threat to us.
Therefore, Pakistan has launched operation to purge the country from
terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, sectarianism and religious
extremism, he added. (end)
