Sheikh Sabah appointed Prime Minister By Adnan Dawoud KUWAIT, July 13 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an Amiri order appointing Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the position of Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, following the Premier's more than four decades of diplomatic service to the country.
Sheikh Sabah stands out among individuals who worked hard to create a place for Kuwait in history, and was eventually honored with the title 'The Sheikh of Arab and International Diplomats' and is known as the head of Kuwaiti diplomats the world over. Appointed to the post of Foreign Minister for the first time in 1963, Sheikh Sabah continued to lead this position until 1991. Seven years later he was assigned to the Cabinet as First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, which is the position he held throughout various Cabinet reshufflings. During the period between 1971 and 1975, Sheikh Sabah held the position of acting Information Minister in addition to his post as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Also, he was acting Finance Minister and acting Oil Minister from 1965 until 1967. The 74-year old newly-appointed Premier is the fourth son of the late Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah - During the period when His Highness the Crown Prince and Premier Sheikh Saad AL-Abdullah AL-Salem AL-Sabah was abroad receiving medical treatment, Sheikh Sabah was appointed the position of acting Prime Minister and his work during this time was greatly noted. Upon receiving the appointment of acting Premiership, Sheikh Sabah was fully aware that he was working in the path of His Highness the Crown Prince, which is a path that leads to the success of Kuwait. Sheikh Sabah is one of the main pillars of the country's leadership, and has made up the third part of the nation's leadership for years past.
