Kuwait, Ukraine sign agreement on providing protection from chemical weapons MOSCOW, March 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait and Ukraine signed Tuesday an agreement outlining the legal status of a Ukrainian battalion that would provide protection from chemical and biological weapons in Kuwait.
The Inter-fax news agency quoted Kuwaiti diplomatic sources in the Ukrainian Capital Kiev as saying that Kuwait welcomes the stationing of the Ukrainian battalion which is specialized in protection of weapons of mass destruction.
The battalion's mission would be limited to the treatment of the traces of chemical and biological weapons if used by the Iraqi regime, sources said.
The sources also expressed hope that the Ukrainian parliament endorses sending the battalion to the region, stating that it would not take part in the possible military operations. (end) ans.ge KUNA 181938 Mar 03NNNN
