Lord Mayor of London meets King of Bahrain
MANAMA, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- The Lord Mayor of city of London Alderman Gavyn
Arthur met on Wednesday with the King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa
Al-Khalefa to discuss bilateral ties and economic and trade relations.
Bahrain News Agency said that during their meeting, the King asserted
Bahrain's keen interest on developing ties with the UK hoping for more
cooperation.
Lord Arthur affirmed the importance of Bahrain's role as a banking and
financial center, and praised the Free economy and excellent regulations
enjoyed by the Kingdom of Bahrain in providing competition services in the
region.
In a seminar organized by Bahrain Institute for Banking and Financial
Studies, Lord Arthur gave a speech in the presence of Deputy Governor of
Bahrain Monetary Agency Khalid Al-Bassam on the prospects of the international
economy and reviewed the effects of globalization on the financial services in
addition to the protection offered by the city of London for the Arab Funds.
He also tackled the cooperation between the Islamic banking in the region
and the city of London in the field of financial services.
He pointed out that the insurance sector was mostly affected by the latest
development in the region, exceeding all expectations and reaching billion of
dollars on the international level.(end)
