Highlights of most important sport events in 2002 (Editors: following is the fourth part of major events of the passing year) KUWAIT, Dec 23 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait witnessed many significant sports events in the year 2002 which saw kuwaiti athletes scoring magnificent results and bagging medals at home and abroad. On January 10, the Kuwaiti disabled team won third place in the Africa and Middle East tournament for track and field games winning 13 gold, seven silver and five bronzes medals.
On Jan 30, the Kuwaiti National soccer team took third place in the 15th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) soccer tournament which was held in Saudi Arabia.
On Jan 31, Kuwaiti shooter, Fahd Al-Dehani won the bronze medal in the Double Trap competition in the world championship finals in Qatar after shooting 181 out of 200.
On Feb 1, Kuwait won the Tennis Gulf Cup for under 18 years after Kuwaiti tennis champion, Musa'ad Al-Jazaf beat his Qatari rival 6/0 6/2.
On Feb 5, the Arabi soccer team won the fourth Khorafi soccer tournament, beating Al-Naser in the final with four goals to one.
On Feb 19, The Kuwaiti handball team became champions of Asia after beating Qatar in the final game 29-25.
On March 14, the Kuwaiti tennis team won the 15th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tennis championship.
On April 3, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah patronized the opening of the second West Asian Games tournament at Kuwait stadium which lasted till April 12. His Highness the Amir deputized the Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to inaugurate the tournament.
The Kuwaiti Soccer team won the tournament gold medal after a draw with Iran in the final in addition to the gold in the Handball and basketball competition.(more) Ad.jsy KUNA 230920 Dec 02NNNN
