Dubai launches "a city of medicine" costing 1.8 billion dollars DUBAI, Nov 5 (KUNA) -- Dubai is planning to build a city for medical complexes and services at a cost of 1.8 billion dollars, UAE minister of defense and Dubai's Crown Prince Sheikh Muhammad Ben Rashed Al Maktoum said on Tuesday.
At a ceremony marking the launching of the event, he said the mammoth project would infuse variety and vitality to the local economy.
Spanning over 10 million square feet of space, the project will accomodate private and public sector hospitals, clinics, medical research centers, labs, as well as hotels for patients'stay, said Muhammad Alqarqawi, head of the authority supervising the building and development of the medical city of Dubai, at a press conference here.
A medical university, a university hospital, a nursing clinic, and medical research facilities are also planned by the project, he said. In addition, there will be centers for sports medicine, nutrition, diagnostic sciences, he said, leading up to making the city the largest focal point of medical services between Europe and East Asia.
