Thirty-three paintings of former Egyptian Queen displayed in the Carray Gallery (with photos) By Hedayat Abdulnabi Geneva, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- Thirty-three paintings of the former Queen Farida of Egypt are under display in the Carray Gallery in Martigny,Switzerland, 140 kilometers from Geneva.
Granddaughter of the late Queen, Yasmine Perreten told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that her grandmother loved her country Egypt very much and lived there for many years, even after the former King Farouk was deposed and then ousted following the July 23, 1952 revolution.
Queen Farida's art was launched first in portraits and then in the 1960s the former Queen turned to landscapes of Egypt.
The Nile and the country side figure prominently in Farida's art.
However, all her current paintings displayed give the impression that she painted at a distance leaving for the spectator his own imagination.
The late Queen of Egypt, divorced from the King years prior to the 1952 Revolution had held 13 art exhibits in Paris.
Farida of Egypt also exhibited in New York, Cleveland and Houston, and had an annual exhibition in Egypt.
The former Queen of Egypt died in 1988 and was buried there in accordance with her will.
She left behind her an enormous treasure of her paintings to her family.
The former Queen donated, in her life time, some of her paintings to some institutions in Egypt.
Her granddaughter Yasmine is following her foot steps and has a number of paintings of her own displayed in the Carray Gallery.
Yasmine's art reflects spontaneous paintings where the viewer is left to imagine the depth of the painting.
One of her landmarks is a painting of a Pyramid where again the spectator is left to journey into a soul searching experience.
Yasmine, a Swiss/Egyptian was born in Switzerland to a Swiss father and an Egyptian mother, one of three daughters of the late Queen Farida.(end) hn.kf KUNA 040911 Sep 02NNNN
