KUWAITI GOVERNMENT MAKES EFFORTS TO BRING PRISONER FROM AFGHANISTAN
KUWAIT, DEC 25 (KUNA) -- ACTING PREMIER AND FOREIGN MINISTER SHEIKH SABAH
AL-AHMAD AL-SABAH SAID AGAIN ON TUESDAY THAT THE KUWAITI GOVERNMENT WAS
EXERTING EFFORTS TO BRING KUWAITI MOHAMMAD AL-ENEZI FROM AFGHANISTAN, WHERE HE
WAS ARRESTED AFTER FIGHTING SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH AL-QAEDA FIGHTERS.
"THE GOVERNMENT IS EXERTING EFFORST OVER THIS ISSUE," SHEIKH SABAH TOLD
REPORTERS IN COMMENTS ON THE STATE'S MEASURES TO SAFEGAURD RETURN OF AL-ENEZI.
SPEAKING AFTER A PARLIAMENTARY SESSION, SHEIKH SABAH SAID "WE THANK THE
PARLIAMENT MEMBERS FOR THEIR KEENNESS OF THE PRISONER'S ISSUE, BUT I WANT TO
EMPHASIZE THAT WE AT THE GOVERNMENT LEVEL ARE WORKING VERY HARD ON THIS ISSUE
EVEN BEFORE THE MPS TALKED ABOUT IT."
HE SAID THE 16-YEAR-OLD AL-ENEZI WAS INJURED AND WAS HANDED OVER TO THE
AMERICAN FORCES IN AFGHANISTAN. "WE WILL TRY TO BRING HIM BACK HOME."
THE CONTACTS TO BRING HIM BACK, ADDED SHEIKH SABAH, WERE TAKING PLACE BY
COOPERATION OF THE FOREIGN MINISTRY AND THE U.S. EMBASSY IN KUWAIT.
ASKED IF ANY KUWAITI IN AFGHANISTAN HAS SOUGHT THE KUWAITI EMBASSY IN
PAKISTAN TO RETURN HOME, THE CHIEF DIPLOMAT SAID NO ONE CAME FOR DIPLOMATIC
MISSION.
ON THE MEASURES AGAINST THOSE RETURNING FROM AFGHANISTAN, SHEIKH SABAH SAID
"ANY PERSON WHO FOUGHT IN AFGHANISTAN SHOULD BE QUESTIONED BECUASE HE FOUGHT
IN A COUNTRY ABOUT WHICH WE KNOW NOTHING." (END)
