Jordan, Congo agree to establish diplomatic relations, economic cooperation
Amman, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Jordan and the Congo agreed to establish
diplomatic relations aimed at strengthening cooperation between both countries.
The agreement was made during official talks between the President of the
Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila and King Abdullah II here last
night.
An official statement said the talks focused on establishing cooperation
between Jordan and Congo, especially in the economic field.
Both countries signed agreements in the fields of economic, scientific and
technical cooperation and a memorandum of understanding in investment aimed at
increasing economic cooperation.
Jordanian Minister of Trade and Industry, Salaheddin Al-Bashir said both
sides discussed joint economic affairs, cooperation and exchange of expertise
to establish joint investment in both countries.
Kabila's visit to Jordan is the first visit to a Middle Eastern country
since he assumed power last year.
The Congolese president is accompanied by a number of ministers and high
ranking officials. (end)
