Belgium: proposal to use Russian assets for Ukraine loan "does not address concerns"

BRUSSELS, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot affirmed Wednesday that the European proposal to use frozen Russian assets to finance a loan for Ukraine does not address Belgium's concerns, as the European Commission prepares to present the accompanying legal framework.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting, Prأ©vot said Belgium's concerns "are being downplayed," stressing that the texts expected from the European Commission "do not address our concerns in a satisfactory manner." He added that Belgium insists on ensuring that any risks it may incur under the proposed mechanism "are fully covered" before moving forward with the plan. (end) arn.ahm
