Israeli occupation to reopen Rafah crossing

GAZA, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- The Israeli occupation army said Wednesday it will reopen the Rafah land crossing in the upcoming days for patients and injured individuals seeking to leave Gaza.
In a statement, it said the crossing will operate under the same mechanism used earlier this year, allowing medical evacuations following security approval and in coordination with Egypt and under EU supervision.
Rafah is the sole crossing point for Palestinians to the outside world, thousands of patients, wounded people and students are on both the Palestinian and Egyptian sides have been waiting for months after the closure.
The reopening was meant to take place in the early days of the ceasefire that came into effect on October 11, but Israel occupation refused to implement the agreed terms, conditioning its approval on the return of all bodies of Israeli occupation captives held by Palestinian groups in Gaza.
The Israeli occupation stormed Rafah, on May 6, 2024, destroying the crossing and blocking the movement of travelers and goods, further worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza. (end) wab.sar
