GENEVA, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Friday said the office was appalled as Israeli occupation border police killed two Palestinian men in Jenin in the West Bank, calling it an apparent summary execution.
Speaking to Journalists in Geneva, OHCHR Spokesperson Jeremy Laurence warned about the surge of killings of Palestinians by Israeli occupation forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank, often without accountability, even in the rare cases when investigations are announced.
He added that following yesterday's incident, which was caught on film by a TV channel, an internal review was announced.
Laurence expressed his serious concern on statements by a senior Israeli occupation government official seeking to absolve Israeli occupation security forces of responsibility.
He stressed that this statement raise serious concerns about the credibility of any future review or investigation conducted by any entity not fully independent from the government.
Laurence confirmed that OHCHR has verified that since 7 October 2023 until 27 November 2025, Israeli occupation forces and settlers killed 1,030 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem. Among the victims were 223 children.
He called for an end to impunity for Israeli occupation forces' unlawful use of force and ever-growing Israeli settler violence.
Laurence reiterated the call of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk for independent, prompt, and effective investigations into the killings of Palestinians, and that those responsible for violations be held fully accountable. (end) imk.ao
