World Bank affirms support for Syria's economic Recovery

WASHINGTON Nov 20 (KUNA)-- The World Bank Group has expressed support for Syria's economic recovery efforts during the current transitional period. A delegation led by World Bank Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan region Dr. Ousmane Dione visited Damascus yesterday to discuss the Bank's work program to revitalise the economy, according to a statement released by the Bank on Thursday. Meetings with Syrian officials focused on strengthening partnerships, identifying priority sectors, and implementing support programs amidst challenging circumstances. The World Bank plans to mobilise resources, establish a multi-donor trust fund, and promote private sector investment to foster development. Notably, the discussions included the Emergency Electricity Project, marking the first World Bank-financed project in Syria in nearly 40 years.
