OCHA: humanitarian response in Gaza accelerates despite restrictions
NEW YORK, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the humanitarian response in Gaza is accelerating despite numerous restrictions, stressing the need to lift such obstacles to enable a swift scale-up of operations and meet urgent needs across the Strip.
OCHA stated in a press release late Wednesday that Israeli occupation authorities had informed of the reopening of the "Zikim" crossing in northern Gaza for humanitarian shipments, noting that the UN had recently repaired the road leading to the crossing inside Gaza in preparation for its reopening.
The Office said food security partners continue delivering meals to those in need across the Gaza Strip, while partners also maintain basic cash assistance through vouchers, providing 66,000 cash transfers since the ceasefire took effect.
OCHA warned that a prolonged internet outage could lead to a complete communications breakdown across Gaza, jeopardizing ongoing humanitarian operations carried out by the UN and its partners.
It added that as humanitarian actors expand their assistance and with continued support from the commercial sector and bilateral aid, prices of basic goods are gradually stabilizing. (end) ast.aai
