First phase of Egyptian parliamentary elections kicks off

CAIRO, Nov 10 (KUNA) -- Polling began Monday morning in the first phase of Egypt's 2025 parliamentary elections across 70 constituencies, comprising 5,606 subcommittees, under full judicial supervision and strict organizational and security measures ensuring smooth and transparent voting.
The two-phase elections cover all Egyptian governorates, with the first phase including 14 governorates.
A total of 1,287 candidates are contesting individual seats in this phase, alongside one multi-party list covering West Delta and Upper Egypt sectors, while 35,279,922 voters are eligible to cast ballots according to the national voter database.
The Interior Ministry raised readiness levels nationwide, reinforcing security deployment around polling stations, roads, and access routes, supported by rapid intervention forces and female police units to promptly address any emergencies.
Overseas voting for the first phase began last Friday in 139 polling stations across 117 countries, witnessing high turnout among Egyptian expatriates in several Arab nations.
The parliamentary elections come nearly three months after the August Senate elections, which recorded a voter turnout of approximately 17 percent of total registered voters. (end) asm.aai
