CAIRO, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with his British counterpart Yvette Cooper to discuss the latest developments concerning the Palestinian issue and the situation in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
During the call, Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of consolidating the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and moving forward to the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan, outlining Egypt's ongoing efforts in coordination with regional and international partners to advance peace initiatives, it said in a statement.
He emphasized the need for concerted international action to ensure full implementation of the agreement's provisions, end the ongoing war, alleviate the humanitarian suffering of people in the Gaza Strip, and open a genuine political horizon to achieve the Palestinian people's legitimate aspirations for an independent state. He also praised the UK's historic step in recognizing the State of Palestine.
The Egyptian minister further reviewed his country's preparations to host the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza Strip, noting that Egypt looks forward to active participation from the UK as one of the main partners and sponsors.
He added that the conference will be a key step in mobilizing international support for reconstruction efforts and in launching a new phase of regional stability.
The two ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Sudan, where Abdelatty condemned the blatant violations and atrocities committed in El-Fasher city, stressing the need to open humanitarian corridors to facilitate the delivery of aid.
Abdelatty also underscored the importance of joint regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive humanitarian truce and ensure the sustained flow of humanitarian and relief assistance across Sudan to ease the suffering of its people.
On the bilateral front, the ministers commended the positive momentum in Egyptian-British relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further developing ties, increasing high-level visits, and strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation in the interests of both nations and peoples.
