Attack on base northern Pakistan kills 5 militants, injures 6 policemen

ISLAMABAD, Sep 2 (KUNA) -- A coordinated suicide attack targeting a base of the paramilitary Federal Constabulary (FC) killed at least five militants and injured six police officers in Bannu district of Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, said police.
According to an initial police report, a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of the FC in the Bannu district, said district police chief DPO Saleem Abbas Kalachi.
Following the explosion, five militants breached the FC Lines and tried to take control of the office buildings.
A combined security operation by police, FC and other security forces resulted in the deaths of all five attackers.
During the exchange of gunfire, a Station House Officer was critically wounded, alongside five other officers who also suffered injuries. " (end) sbk.gta
