Landslide, flooding kill 36 Indians in Jammu, Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- At least 36 Indians were killed and 20 more injured following a major landslide and flooding as record rains wreaked havoc in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two days.
The Press Trust of India said Wednesday that 36 people lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir in rain-related incidents, as a major landslide that hit Adhkwari cave temple in Jammu and Kashmir's Katra city of Reasi district claimed 34 lives.
Flood water entered several residential areas and caused massive damage to public infrastructure, including bridges, private houses and commercial establishments. Several rivers recorded high water levels, as Jhelum breached danger marks in Anantnag and Srinagar.
More than 10,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying flooded areas and a joint team of Army, the police and National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are engaged in rescue and search operations. (end) atk.hb
