Israeli occupation forces detain Mufti of Jerusalem
RAMALLAH, July 25 (KUNA) -- The Israeli occupation forces arrested the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories Sheikh Mohammad Hussein at the gate of Al-Aqsa Mosque after the Friday noon prayers.
A special forces' unit of the Israeli occupation forces stormed the holy mosque in Jerusalem and escorted the Grand Mufti to Bab Al-Magharebah (The Moroccan Gate), the Directorate of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem Affairs said in a brief statement.
The arrest followed the Friday noon sermon delivered by Sheikh Hussein where he vehemently decried the Israeli policy of starvation pursued against the residents of Gaza Strip.
The Israeli authorities detained the Grand Mufti briefly before setting him free. They kept him away from Al-Aqsa Mosque until further interrogations due on Sunday, according to local sources. (end)
