KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (KUNA) -- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Friday called on the Israeli occupation to immediately fulfill its obligations under international law and allow the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to carry out their relief work in Gaza without obstruction.
In a tatement, Albanese warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has surpassed the world's worst fears, and stressed that denying civilians, including children, access to aid and killing them while they try to reach food and water is indefensible and unacceptable.
He emphasized the urgent need to reject any proposals that would lead to the forced and permanent displacement of Palestinians, noting that the ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of a staggering number of innocent people, while children in Gaza face severe hunger due to the prolonged blockade.
The Prime Minister also renewed his call for the immediate release of all detainees, reaffirming Australia's support for international efforts aimed at securing an immediate and lasting ceasefire as the best path toward the return of captives and the alleviation of suffering for their families.
Albanese further highlighted that the international community has long supported a two-state solution and underscored that backing the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state has been a bipartisan position in Australia for many years.
The Australian Prime Minister said that the goal of a two-state solution remains a cornerstone of international efforts, as it is the only viable path to a just and lasting peace.
He urged the global community to exert every possible effort to protect innocent civilians and end the suffering and starvation of Gaza's population. (end) aab.dss
