TUNIS, July 7 (KUNA) -- The Advisory Committee of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Monday recommended the formation of a new unified government with a defined mandate and duration, as well as the adoption of a revised electoral framework based on broad national consensus.
The recommendations also include completing or restructuring the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), ensuring its full financial independence, and strengthening electoral security to safeguard the process and ensure the safety of participants.
According to a statement issued by UNSMIL, these five core recommendations were presented by its Advisory Committee, which emphasized the necessity of fulfilling five key conditions before organizing the country's next national elections, as part of efforts to support a political process aimed at building unified, elected institutions in Libya.
The mission clarified that the recommendations are intended to create a conducive environment for free and fair elections and to ensure inclusive participation, and it called on all Libyan parties to support the recommendations and to help create the conditions necessary for holding the upcoming democratic elections.
UNSMIL reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the Libyan people on their path toward lasting peace and stability, and invited Libyan citizens to share their views on the recommendations through the mission's official website. (end)
