CAIRO, July 7 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi affirmed on Monday his country's full support for achieving national consensus on the Somali political files which would enhance security and consolidate the foundations of stability and sustainable development in Somalia.
This came during a press conference between the Egyptian President and his Somali counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, said the Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Mohammad Al-Shinawy in a statement.
Both sides discussed bilateral ties, regional developments and issues of common interest, foremost the regional security situation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, he said.
President Al-Sisi addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in light of the joint political declaration signed last January, which aims to raise relations between the two countries to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership, he pointed out.
On his part, the Somali president stressed that his current visit aims to strengthen the historical ties between Egypt and Somalia and open new horizons for joint cooperation, particularly at the level of communication between the two governments, in addition to strengthening relations between the private sectors in both countries, he noted.
He expressed his country's appreciation for the Egyptian support towards Somalia over the decades and the vital role Cairo plays in supporting Mogadishu, he added. (end)
