FMs of Egypt, Iran, US envoy tackle de-escalation

CAIRO, June 17 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and US Envoy for Middle East Steve Witkoff on Tuesday discussed ongoing efforts to de-escalate military tensions between the Israeli occupation and Iran.
This came in two separate phone calls, during which they underlined the necessity of regional de-escalation, resolution of conflicts by diplomatic and political means, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
The Egyptian foreign minister stressed that it is essential to ensure a ceasefire and return to the negotiation table as being the sole way of arriving at a sustainable agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
He reiterated his country's objection to military solutions for regional crises, calling for fending off conflict spillover into the region. (end) ism.mt
