KUWAIT, May 26 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Ambassador Khaled Al-Maghames affirmed on Monday that Kuwait is keen on strengthening its partnership with various international humanitarian organizations.
This came during his speech in the opening of a workshop on international humanitarian law organized by KRCS in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
"Kuwait has paid great attention to humanitarian issues and has always been at the forefront of donor countries supporting humanitarian and relief work," he said.
He stressed on the country's keenness to continue this humanitarian path in partnership with international organizations, and particularly the ICRC.
He noted that KRCS is dedicated to achieving its fundamental humanitarian goals and to extending aid to those in need or affected by crises and disasters, both locally and internationally, in times of peace and conflict alike.
On his part, Head of the ICRC's Regional Delegation for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Mamadou Sow, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with KRCS, commending its role in advocating for international humanitarian law and defending its values and principles.
Sow said the workshop hosted by KRCS was "not merely a training session, but a message of protecting humanity by raising awareness, enhancing restraint, and fostering solidarity with others."
He also referred to the tragic events unfolding in the Gaza Strip due to the war waged by the Israeli occupation, expressing solidarity with his colleagues in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and extending condolences to the families of those Movement members recently killed in Khan Yunis, Gaza.
The workshop addresses the role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, international humanitarian law, armed conflicts and international law, the International Criminal Court, current challenges, and the protection of civilians.
The three-day workshop brings together representatives from different Kuwaiti ministries, bodies, and associations, with the aim of promoting international humanitarian law rules and reinforcing its humanitarian concepts and principles. (end)
