Russia, China sign raft of deals to step up ties - Kremlin

MOSCOW, May 8 (KUNA) -- Russia and China have signed a number of deals aiming to step up bilateral relations, the Kremlin said on Thursday, citing such agreements as beneficial towards global stability.
The deals, sealed after talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his visiting Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, include an agreement to bolster and protect bilateral investments across vital sectors such as energy and trade, the Kremlin said in a statement.
Bilateral cooperation with Beijing has seen meteroic growth as of late, while Beijing is among Moscow's most significant trade partners, Putin told a joint press conference alongside the Chinese leader, praising efforts towards forging a "joint economic cooperation system," the statement underlined.
Hailing his fruitful talks with Putin, the Chinese president said that the discussions have paved the way to new agreemetns that will be instrumental in propelling relations to greater levels, highlighting Beijing's goal of ratcheting up coopertion with Moscow on the global stage.
The talks come as part of the Chinese president's official state visit to Moscow, while Russia has said it looks forward to hold similar constructive dialouge with Beijing, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. (end) dan.nam
