Iraq pledges fuel for Lebanon for six months

BAGHDAD, March 29 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Soudani on Saturday pledged in a phone contact with the Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to supply the country with fuel for six months.
The Iraqi Premiership said in a statement that the prime minister assured Speaker Berri that Baghdad would secure the fuel for generating power for six additional months.
Iraq and Lebanon, in July 2021, reached a deal to provide Beirut with heavy fuel to operate the electricity plants in exchange for medical services for Iraqi citizens.
Al-Soudani, during the call with Berri, rejected the Israeli occupation attack on Beirut's suburbs on Friday, and the parliament speaker expressed gratitude for Iraq's support for Lebanon.
The Lebanese authorities provide power to the people for some hours, according to a daily rationing program. The sector needs overhaul and the country has often suffered fuel shortage to run the plants. (end) ahh.rk
