LONDON, March 20 (KUNA) -- British Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed on Thursday his country's strong rejection to Israeli occupation forces' resumption of military operations on the besieged Gaza Strip.
Speaking before the UK House of Common, Lammy stressed the need of an urgent return to a ceasefire and direct negotiations between the Israeli side and Palestine's Hamas.
"We strongly oppose Israel's resumption of hostilities. We urgently want to see a return to a ceasefire. More bloodshed is in no-one's interest," he said.
He warned against Israel's prevention of humanitarian assistance to a civilian population and cutting off electricity.
He added that half a million of Gaza's population are without potable water, in addition to the absence of foodstuff.
"We and our partners need to persuade the parties that this conflict cannot be resolved by military means," he said.
He indicated that the UK is now working closely with partners such as France and Germany, to send a clear message.
On Tuesday, the Israeli occupation forces violated the 3-week ceasefire truce, carrying out some air raids that killed hundreds of people, including children. (end)
