Arab League organizes 9th Media Excellence Award, patronized by Kuwait
CAIRO, March 11 (KUNA) -- The Arab League's media and communications sector announced Tuesday the organization of the ninth edition of the Arab Media Excellence Award, "Arab Youth and New Media", under the patronage of Kuwait.
The award, of four categories: television, radio, press and digital media, aims to highlight distinguished media models in the Arab world, the League said in a statement.
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector Ambassador Ahmad Khattabi underlined in a statement importance of taking part in this session as it handles topics that directly affect the youth.
New media is one of the most important features of modernity in Arab societies and it is no longer possible to dispense with social media in public life, especially the youth, he remarked.
Khatttabi added that the discussions will shed light on the role of social media in raising awareness of youth about societal issues, supporting comprehensive development, preserving national and cultural identity, and enhancing the spirit of leadership and innovation.
He explained that the Arab Media Excellence Award is an award of material value targeting accredited governmental and private media figures and institutions, and Arab organizations.
Khattabi indicated that this encourages quality and professional media and enhances the capabilities of Arab media professionals.
The Arab League will continue to receive nominations until late next April, provided that the conditions are met: that the entity or candidate be of Arab nationality, the language of the submitted work is Arabic, and that the candidate has not previously received an award. (end) mfm.aai
