Five people killed in multiple attacks in S. Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (KUNA) -- Unknown gunmen launched multiple shooting and bomb attacks in the southern provinces of Narathiwat and Pattani, killing five people and wounding more than a dozen.

The attacks took place last night, the local security services in Narathiwat said in a press release on Sunday.
Nearly ten assailants, dressed in black, threw hand grenades at a security post in Su-ngai Kolok town, near the borders with Malaysia, opened fire at the soldiers manning the post and fled the scene.
They also blew up a booby-trapped car and a motorcycle outside the security post.
Two soldiers were killed, and eight other and four civilians were injured, according to the statement.
In Pattani province a roadside bomb went off killing three people, including a security guard, and injuring another person. (end) aab.gb
