KAWAGOE, Japan, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Located to the northwest of Tokyo, Kawagoe in Saitama prefecture charms visitors with its old-style buildings and one of its main attractions, the Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower).
Kawagoe was originally settled back in the fourth century before becoming a town and a city in the 1800s and 1900s respectively.
Nestled amongst modern buildings and streets, those arriving to Kawagoe are immediately transported back in time while visiting shops, entering temples and shrines, or riding rickshaw carts.
Venturing deeper in Kawagoe, the Toki no Kane stands tall at around 16 meters with the structure reportedly built in the early to mid-1600s. It burned down several times and was reconstructed at its current height after the Kawagoe Great Fire of 1893. (end)
