Kuwait continues promoting strategic relations with China -- Deputy FM

KUWAIT, Feb 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah affirmed that his country seeks to strengthen the strategic relations with China in all areas in a way that could live up to the expectations of the leaders and peoples of both sides.
Both countries share the desire to contribute to security, stability and prosperity on regional and international scales, he said during a function hosted by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Kuwait on Wednesday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic visit to Beijing by late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The visit of the late Amir and the then minister of finance, trade and industry in 1965 was a cornerstone in the bilateral relations that materialized the Chinese proverb "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." "It laid the groundwork for establishing the diplomatic relations in 1971," Sheikh Jarrah recalled.
He noted that the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah paid another successful visit to Beijing in July 2018.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah also visited China in his then capacity as Crown Prince to open a new horizons for mutually beneficial cooperation, the senior diplomat added.
On his part, China Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei said both countries supported each other and made joint efforts to develop their relationship and deepen their friendship over the past six decades.
The leaders of both countries, through their visit exchanges, were able to enhance the bilateral relations through a strategic perspective, which helped China to become Kuwait's biggest trade partner for 10 years running, Zhang pointed out. Commending the opening of Kuwait's second overseas investment office in Shanghai, he said that China has become the second biggest foreign investor in Kuwait. (end) aa.gb
