KUWAIT, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- The Sixth Arab Regional Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) kicked off on Monday, running from February 9 to 12, chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah under the theme "Building Resilient Arab Communities: From Understanding to Action."
About 22 Arab countries are participating in the forum, where a disaster risk reduction strategy will be adopted under the name of Kuwait. This strategy will be implemented by all Arab nations over the next three years.
The Government of Kuwait, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for Arab States, and the Arab League, with the aim of fostering regional cooperation, organize the forum jointly.
The discussions will focus on continuing and assessing the progress made by Arab countries in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction 2030.
Additionally, priorities for the coming two years will be identified, and the "Kuwait Declaration" and an action plan for the 2025-2027 period will be adopted.
Nearly 800 participants, including decision-makers, experts, international and national representatives, as well as Arab ministers and heads of diplomatic missions in Kuwait, are attending the forum. (end)
