Security operation kills two militants in N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- At least two militants were killed by the security forces in an operation in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, said the military on Monday.
According to Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan in KPK resulted in the killing of two militants.
The Security Forces effectively engaged the militants' location, killing two of them and apprehending another in injured condition. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from these militants, who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces as well as target killing of innocent civilians, said ISPR.
"Sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Kharji found in the area, as security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe-out the menace of terrorism from the country," the statement by the military concluded.
President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif issued separate statements praising security forces for carrying out the operation successfully.
The President in a statement expressed the determination to continue operations until the complete elimination of the monster of terrorism from the country.
PM Sharif said, "We will continue the war against the monster of terrorism until its complete elimination from the country".
Earlier on Saturday, at least 22 militants and six soldiers were killed in three separate engagements in different areas of KPK. The security operations come at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.mb
