KUWAIT, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al-Sabah attended at the headquarters of the Defense Ministry on Monday, an award ceremony for Director General of Kuwait's Coast Guard, Commodore Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al-Sabah.
The Director General received the US Legion of Merit award, given by the President of the United States.
In a statement by the Ministry of Interior, Deputy Commander of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper awarded the medal with the attendance of Kuwait Army Deputy Chief-of-Staff Air Marshal Sabah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, US Ambassador to Kuwait Karen Sasahara, and a number of military and embassy officials.
First Deputy Prime Minister said in a speech that this reflects the strong military relations between Kuwait and the United States.
He added that the medal expresses US leadership's appreciation for the Director General's efforts in strengthening military cooperation between the two countries, wishing him success in performing his duties.
For her part, Sasahara expressed pride over attending the ceremony, praising Kuwait's military keenness to enhance cooperation, and the mutual respect between US and Kuwait's militaries.
The award comes in recognition of the Kuwaiti military official's service as Commander of the Combined Task Force (CTF) 152; the largest international maritime partnership in the world and as a representative of Kuwait's Ministry of Interior from February 2019 to October 2023.
In addition to his contribution to the flow of information and exchange of technologies related to maritime field awareness, supporting 30 exercises, and for facilitating 55,000 operating hours for unmanned surface vessels and artificial intelligence.
Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al-Sabah directly contributed to achieving the goal of the US Naval Forces Central Command of establishing the world's first partner nation fleet of 100 unmanned surface vessels, achieving maritime security and stability between the US and collation partners around the Arabian Gulf.
