KUWAIT, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait desires to join Global Water Organization (GWO) established in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as a constituent member, upon the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said a Kuwaiti minister on Saturday.
Speaking in a press statement, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Boushehri said the organization whose establishment was announced by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman on Tuesday during the "One Water Summit" aims to address water challenges in a comprehensive way through unifying international efforts.
During the summit, some topics have been discussed like main frameworks and rules to upgrade water security system regionally and internationally to achieve a number of goals, Boushehri said.
The summit focused also on some issues to curb negative impacts of drought and desertification and water pollution on food security, human health and climate change, he noted.
As part of the summit's agenda, the minister took part in a coordinative meeting during which he stressed the need of concerted efforts among GCC states and international organizations to develop water production from different sources.
Boushehri underlined the importance of enhancing research activities, and supporting innovations and localizing modern technology in water production and distribution.
The summit, co-chaired by France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank (WB) in partnership with Saudi Arabia, seeks to boost global water governance and combat water rarity-related challenges. (end) fr.mjb.hm
