KUWAIT, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- "GCC... United Journey" -- the slogan for the 45th Gulf Summit, held in Kuwait last Sunday, -- fulfilled regional countries collective desire to realize the aspirations and dreams of the people in the region and reinforce Gulf countries' presence globally.
Through its final communique and "Kuwait declaration", GCC leaders took center stage and vowed to realize several comprehensive goals in boosting ties amongst the council's members, reinforcing regional presence in face of growing challenges as well as expanding strategic partnerships with world countries, international political blocs and organizations.
Since establishment in 1981, the GCC has been keeping up with developments and world happenings through coordinating efforts on all possible domains.
As the region was going through a critical period, the summit called for speeding up GCC economic integration as the main drive for cooperation plans to recreate stability and sustainable development in the region and the world.
The GCC leaders focused on digital economy during the grand event, saying that setting a unified digital market amongst Gulf countries would enable countries in the region to compete on the global level.
Meanwhile, as the slogan for the summit suggested, being in a unified journey required all to fend off threats through defense cooperation and coordination as part of leaders intentions to jump from a state of "cooperation" to "unity".
Onwards to the Kuwait declaration, the GCC summit had reiterated members firm convictions on Arab and Islamic issues chiefly the Palestinian cause, the establishment of an independent state within the June 1967 borders for the people of Palestine with eastern Jerusalem as capital, a demands based on the Arab peace initiative and international laws.
In this regard, the GCC summit did not hesitate to condemn the Israeli occupation's brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip and its people, saying that "enough is enough" and the world must move towards a sustainable peace in the Middle East via an international coalition pushing for a two-state solution.
